Anne Lise Stenseth

Anne-Lise Stenseth (b. 1959) is a visual artist with background from Bergen Academy of Art and Design and Oslo National Academy of the Arts as well as Creative Writing at The Arctic University of Norway/UiT. She graduated in 1993 as has since then exhibited extensively in Norway and abroad including Museum Folkwang, Germany, Tent, Rotterdam, Liverpool Biennial, Stensersen Museum, Oslo, Depo, Istanbul, Gothenburg City Museum, Sweden, Tbilisi History Museum Karvasla, Georgia and countries like Libanon, Kosovo, Argentina, Russia, France, Ukraine, China and Australia.

Artist statement:

In my work I focus on specific themes that questions different aspects of culture, history and the contemporary. My interests revolves around cultural difference, feminist issues, otherness, human relationship and antagonism in the social, political, private and public field. Over the past 20 years I have mainly worked with videoportraits or audiovisual essays, in which the subject of investigation and creation are persons, character and place. Each project or work treats specific themes. The media is, along with video, photography, sound, text and prose.

I explore different ways of storytelling, from the documentary to the fictional and the projects are mostly presented as single or multichannel videoinstallations.
