Playwright and dramaturge | Sweden
IRENA KRAUS is a swedish playwright and dramaturge living in Stockholm. She’s writing for stage, radio, television and also recently a libretto for an opera for children, which got The Critics Prize 2015.
She’s been writing quite a few pieces for a young adult audience and wrote a play about the Russian feminists and punk protest group Pussy Riot, who staged a performance in Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ the Savior. The play Pussy Riot – a punkprayer ( based on Masha Gessen’s renown book) was produced at The Royal Dramatic theatre in Stockholm 2016, as well as her adaptation of Utvandrarna by Vilhelm Moberg ,which was directed by the Swedish choreographer and director Mats Ek, who’s Irena been working close with for more than 15 years. Her favorite, among her own plays, is Karl Gerhard. A play about the legendary artist who provoced the germans with his cabarets during The Second World War. Rikard Wolff, played the part of Karl Gerhard at The City Theatre in Stockholm for almost a year.
Irena Kraus is also working as a dramaturge at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm.
