CHRISTINE ISTAD

Istad is working with photography, video and installation.

She lives and works in Oslo, Norway.

Christine Istad uses the camera to pull out patterns and elemental structures from her surroundings. The photos are in-depth studies of small fragments of reality. In her work she is striving for a sense of interconnection; how things relate to each other and how they fit together. She focuses on architectural structures, however the architecture is often only sensed and she pulls out the abstraction from the concrete forms. In her process she is interested in the discovery of a motif or something surprising or noteworthy in the surroundings.

She has participated in several solo and group shows in both Norway and abroad.

Solo shows at a.o. KUBE Art Museum, Henie Onstad Art Center, Oslo Art Center, Gallery Semmingsen. She has participated at regional exhibitions in Norway.

Group shows at LNM, Kube Art Museum, Henie Onstad Art Center, Zoellner Gallery USA, Marres Maastricht, Louisiana Art & Science Museum USA, Bergen and Tromsø Art Hall.

She has received her education from Strykejernet School of Art, Westerdals School of Communication and Parsons School of Design in New York. She has made several study trips to China, Japan, USA. Her works have been purchased by a.o. University of Oslo, Kube Art Museum, The Prime Ministers Office, Luag Collection PA, USA, The Municipality of Baerum Art Collections etc.

Traveling SUN is a road trip and a site-spesific art project by IstadPacini ArtLab, 2012- 2016. The artists wanted to bring light to the dark winter months in the north, meet

people and share with the rest of the world the beauty of the unspoiled nature that is to be found in all of the Nordic countries. Distance: Oslo-Tromsø-Kirkenes-Bergen-London-Rjukan-Oslo-Reykjavik-Mo i Rana = 12.755 km (7926 miles).
