Cecilia Gärding

Film director | Sweden

My background is in the field of Political Science, ethnology, culture and policy agenda work. I hold a Master’s degree in Political Science and a Bachelor Degree in Ethnology and a mini- MBA in Business Management. I also studied a singer-songwriter one year course at the Conservatory of Music in Stockholm.

After my studies I was appointed as a political advisor at the Department of Justice for the Swedish government, 2005.

The issues under my responsibility concerned employment, education and culture, issues I have later on in life addressed through many different projects. I later created cultural projects for minority youth that created the book "Afroswedish in the new Sweden", the opera "Folkoperan Remixed" and the film "We are like Oranges". The film was awarded Best practice against extremism, 2016 by the EU. I later wrote the book " Diversity in the Swedish Filmheritage 1890-1950". The film and the book was awarded being a part of the collection of the Oscars library and Oscars filmarchive.

Today I am the Coordinator for the Eurotopia project, that will create 21 shortfilms as counter narratives against extremism funded by the European Commission and I am working on a fantasy script about Galileo.
