Simo alitalo

Sound artist | Finland

Simo Alitalo & Tuike Alitalo’s artistic practice combines sound, community art, environmental art and artistic research.

They use different methods from extensive field recordings and sound installations to listening walks and community workshops in listening, recording and digital editing. They are looking for new ways to connect audiences and communities with the acoustic Eco-system they live in.

Their work often emerges from the basic question of acoustemology: what do we know about the world through sense of hearing, and how what we hear affects the way we understand the world.

The aim is to develop methods and tools that would help general public to perceive changes in their sonic environment and empower them so that they could make their voices heard in issues that concern our aural commons.
