Mia Simanainen (b. 1970) is a Finnish vocalist/musician, who writes music to her own bands. She performs also as a featuring artist in various jazz and cross-over projects. Due to her versatility as a singer she’s been able to visit both classical and folk music scenes. She’s got a Master’s degree from the Sibelius-Academy Jazz Music department year 2000.
Ahava-quintet, founded 1999, has worked as the main tool for Mia, performing Finnish poetry combined with modern jazz music. Quartet Ajaton, founded by Mia as well, debuted this year. It is a special synthesis both in its instrumentation and music. In addition to these, Mia works on solo singing and improvising concepts, and writes - a book about singing is in the making.
